Loading the images to the hose

Key thing is to select the brush tool and select the image hose for the Painter nozzles. All the paint resources are stored in native RIFF format (actually fairly early RIFF format but still support in P2015 etc).

Go to the nozzle libraries panel (window menu) and go to the right side menu and load command and then browse for a RIFF file (such as the ones on sale on this page) and then apply the hose to the image

The artwork is not added to the display for the library, that is only done via the additional command of add to library and you will see the thumbnail appear in the library. You can then select the thumbnail to load the RIFF.

Auto clone / auto painting

Select the brush tool and select the image hose and select a Painter nozzle to use via the media library panels (found in the window menu). Now go to the auto painting panel (found again in the window menu) and select a select a stroke (there are a number of different options and you can always record your own wonderful brush stroke). Set the randomness as well as length and brush size and rotation. Click the play and then see the current design added randomly across the artboard. Click the stop button to stop the autopainting

Spacing setting

Apply the Painter nozzles as a continuous stream of paint using the spacing setting for the paint tool which can be varied to create a flow of artworks as well as just a splatter with wide spaces etc across any image. Use paint designs as brush dab splatters, use the jitter feature to spread the applied brush stroke

Combine RIFFs and effects

Apply a Painter nozzle via the image hose and then apply effect such as blur. Apply more RIFF brush strokes and interleave the effects with the strokes and this in turn is a great way of adding unusual depth to artworks

Blending modes

Use the Painter nozzles on layers and apply with different blending modes and effects and more.

Create a layer and paint on that layer. Create another layer and paint on that layer with the image hose. Goto the layers panel and change the blending mode to perhaps darken or difference etc

Edit the source files to change the end result

By editing the source file, the nozzle for Painter file can be turned from a red brush stroke to a blue one or a rainbow coloured one or de-saturate the RIFF image (greyscale) or use visual effects such as blurs to the source RIFF and save as a new file. On re-loading, you will be asked to supply the required hose information which is normally the default 1 setting (none of the RIFFs on this site use more than the 1 cell option). If you edit the RIFFs, probably best to backup all the source files

Text / type fills

The paint tools and image hose can be used to fill text / type in second. Create the type and then go to the layer menu and drop and select command. Go to the brush tool and image hose and select a Painter nozzle and then apply the designs to the selection. You can apply the image hose around the edge of the selection or fill the entire selection with your paint brush.

They can be excellent sources for grains and tiles. Either use the single dab or apply multiple dabs (using the define as a tile feature) and create a new tile. Save the tile in the tiles panel (or grains panel)

You can use the Painter nozzles as a great source for clones via the clone source feature. Create a document with your resources and then use clone source and then use with the cloner tools. You can also use the same approach with patterns and original luminance. Patterns and original luminance and clones are uniquely linked

Looks / Hose are great combinations for superb hi-impact repeatable creative effects. Access via the looks panel. The looks panel is a key panel for selecting a tool and all the associated settings with that tool in a second.

Straight line paths for the tool - great for frames

Use the straight brush option with the image hose / Painter nozzle to create quick and easy and hi-impact edges.

To create a quick edge you can select the brush tool and then select the image hose / category and load a preset for the tool to use and select the straight option from the top bar isntead of using the standard freehand mode and click the top left of image and then bottom left and go around the entire image to create the frame design from the selected artwork

You can use the straight line for rows etc

Open the Painter nozzle RIFF file and drag into the floater panel and use as a floater - they do not have to be used as a standard RIFF image hose file. You can then use that resource again and again in your projects via the floater panel.

Adjust colour / correct colour to modify the colour of the applied artwork

Select the brush tool and image hose and then select a new Painter nozzle via the media panel. Apply the brush strokes using any method you wish and then go to the effects menu and then select the correct colours or adjust colours etc to modify the colour of the applied design and then continue to add more strokes to the artwork.

Use with blobs filter

The blobs filter is one of the super powerful filters in Painter and can be used to create unique designs in seconds. It can be found in the esoterica effects. You can use the current colour but you can also use the paste buffer. The paste buffer can be filled with Painter nozzles, single or multiple and add them into the paste buffer by using the edit menu copy command. Go to the blobs filter and then set the number of blobs to generate etc and apply to the current image or selection. You can use this approach to create some truly extreme images in seconds which can then be further manipulated by tools such as apply surface texture to create amazing depth and surface designs.

Open a RIFF, apply a grain or image luminance, save, and use the paper-tinged dab as a new brush strokes

Simply modify the spacing and all kinds of different results can be generated via the image hose. Use different spacing settings to create a tube of paint or a splatter spray

XML editing for new brushes

Use the capture dab command and capture the applied brush strokes using the image hose. Save the brush dab and save the brush variant and then modify the XML code to create stunning new brushes

Use in Photo-paint

They can be used in Corel Photo-Paint ™ via the spray tool and via TIFF in others

Add to library

Open Painter nozzles riff file and go to the brushes menu and select the nozzle menu and add to library command. Use the mover feature to move to other libraries. Please note that the items in this set are not stored in libraries so if you want to use them in the libraries, this will have to be a manual task or use some form of scripting

Create splatters and spray paint effects via scaling

Record strokes

You can also record brush strokes to create extreme brush strokes and then use the playback feature for the image hose. You can also use the pre-built brush strokes such as scribble or hatch or your own recorded brush strokes.

You can use many of the methods available to the hose tool such as spray with angle, spray with size, random etc.

Opacity settings

Lower the opacity of the tool and apply to create a blurry brush stroke in seconds. You can use them to create all kinds of weird and wonderful designs using a simple change to the opacity. Set it very low for a watercolour like effect with the tool. Set the opacity via the top bar of the application or main control panels. As with most features in CP, you can add expressions and jitter and smoothness

Grain setting and effect on image hose

Lower the grain setting in the general brush strokes panel to change the RIFF into a brush dab using the current foreground colour. If the current foreground is blue, the loaded RIFF file will be a blue stamp.
