Radial Speed Lines In Krita

BasicsStart Krita For the Radial Speed Lines. Create new document. Go to the toolbox and select the assistant tool. Go to the tool options and select 'vanishing point'. Click on document for origin point. Go to the freehand brush. Go to the brush presets panel. Select one of the sketch brushes such as pencil 2B. Set the color to white or black depending on the background color. Go to the tool options and set the assistant to ON. Apply brush strokes outwards from the center at different positions and distance from the origin of the design. Ink / Pencil You can create infinite numbers of them in the application using the above approach and they can all vary just by applying the brush strokes (I often use a pencil brush but you could easily just use an ink pen to draw the lines. You can vary the pressure of the brush stroke to create more intense pencil or ink marks for your radial speed lines. Start pointYou can vary the start point from the origin point for your radial speed lines so you don't need to start from the center point at all and you can randomize the start point from the centerDistanceYou can vary the distance you create the line to as well as the angle start point as well as the density of them. All kinds of factors can be combined to create many different combinations of radial speed linesBackgroundsYou can apply them to different color backgrounds so any radial speed lines can be applied to gradients as well as patterns as well as images as well as solid color backgrounds in green or blue or black (they always look great when the background is black though)ColorYou can vary the color of them as well as the brush size and much more.LayersThey can also be used on a layer and the layers can have effects applied or duplicated and combined with other elements such as a person racing away from the center of the radial speed lines. Anyway, literally all kinds of radial speed lines can be generated in seconds.Assistant tool and the creation The key thing for the speed lines is the assistant tool. The key panel for the assistant tool is the tool options panel where you have a selection of options such as spline, ruler etc but the key one for this tutorial is the vanishing point. Once you have the vanishing point in place, go to the freehand brush tool and then apply the brush strokes. Key thing here is that you set the assistant check box in the tool options to ON. You can delete the vanishing point just by going back to the assistant tool. Speed LinesThe speed lines can be applied following the assistant in many different ways such as1. Different origins 2. Different start point for the brushes 3. Different brushes 4. Different opacities 5. Different widths 6. Different densities of brush strokes 7. Different colors 8. Different effects applied in between strokes 9. Different layers used and so on start point (set distance from the vanishing point origin)You can set the origin of the radial speed lines at the center of the document but you don't have to start drawing from there. You can choose all kinds of start positions. You can add draw the lines a good distance from the origin point and the radial speed lines will still be a straight line as long as the assistant setting is on for the brush (if it is not ON then goto the tool options and set it to ON otherwise the line will start to go everywhere - you will also need to set the value to the maximum as if the value for the assistant is set to a low value then the radial speed lines will still be going all over the place). Delete assistantYou can also delete the assistant by re-selecting the assistant tool in the toolbar and then going to the little delete sign on the origin point for the 'vanishing point' (it is the far right option). Two or more vanishingYou can always work with two or more vanishing points but personally, I prefer to delete the first one and then create a new one in a different origin point. As mentioned, you can also work on layers so the origin point can always be moved anyway.Apply strokes exampleSelect the assistant tool. Select the vanishing point origin for the radial speed lines. Click document to set the origin. Go to the freehand brush tool. Select one of the brushes. Set the color to white. Set the assistant to ON in the brushes tool options. Apply a brush a distance from the origin point of the vanishing point. Continue all around the center. Change the color of the brush. Continue all around the center away - apply brush away from the center but at a distance from the origin (you should then see an empty hollow area in the middle of the radial speed lines)Manga comics and speed lines There are zillions of art books on Manga artwork and how to draw speed lines etc and you can, of course, find millions of examples in 1000s and 1000s of Manga books available from book shops and comic shops as well as online.Additional toolsYou can find other tools with speed lines etc tools such as Clip Studio Paint which is a wonderful application and well worth checking out from Smith Micro
