Tutorial 1 ] Brush stroke frame
1) Select inner region of image
2) Selection menu and invert selection
3) Select brush tool and go to the brush palette and set the color dynamics ON
4) Set hue jitter to 50%
5) set color to red via the Photoshop toolbox
6) Apply Photoshop brush to selected region (the inverted outer selection)
7) Apply brush stroke throughout region, the hue setting will change the hue of the brush from red to green to yellow and so on
8) Copy and paste selected region
9) Layer > Layer style > Drop shadow and offset the shadow
Instant frame. The PSD file can be saved, saving the frame means the frame can be used in a future project. There is no image portfolio in Photoshop so saving the file to a PSD is currently the easiest was to access the frame design at a later time.
Tutorial 2 ] Brush stroke / star field (or xmas tree scene!)
1) Set the current image to black via fill
2) Select the Photoshop paint brush tool. Select one of the star brushes included in the collection (one with multiple stars and different sizes of stars) set the color of the brush to white via the toolbox
3) Set the size of the brush to 500 (the default size is approx 150 for the selected brush, though these vary from brush to brush). The size of the brush is fairly huge against the source so the end result is fairly jagged . Apply the brush to the image
4) Apply a gaussian blur via the filter menu. Set the gaussian blur to 6 or 7 or something that makes the painted stars very blurry. This should remove the jaggedness of the stars
5) Change the color of the star brush via the tool: change to yellow / white
6) Set the brush size via the Photoshop brush palette to about 250 or half of the previous size and apply the brush in a few places on the image
7) Apply a gaussian blur but this time reduce that by half to about 3. This still applies a blur but only a slight blur to the star. This can also be done on different layers so the star effects can be modify at a later point instead of blending the stars into a single blur
8) Re-apply setting the brush tool to more yellow than white. This time the brush size is the default size of approximately 150 px. Apply to different parts of the image.
The brushes collection comes with many stars sets and different types of star fields so you can create many different star designs. Also, the stars can be applied with different colors such as blue or light blue, depending on the star.
