The swatches can be applied to paths, text etc. The swatches can also be combined in millions of ways using blending modes and opacity, the gradients can also be manipulated via the gradients tool to create many different sharp / metallic / blurry gradients designs. Great for frames effects, text effects and much more. The swatches can also be combined using the appearance palette and then saved as a style.
