Plug-in symbols

Symbols are a great way of creating in Illustrator. It is a store for nearly all types of path and path combinations as well as images and more. Useful for creating multiple instances with little overhead. Symbols can be modified at any point in the creative process. Symbols can be used in other area of Illustrator

Symbols are all accessed via the symbols palette, load libraries of symbols and select via the symbols palette

It is very easy to create your own symbols for use with the plug-in i.e. simply select some text or an image and drag into the symbols palette. If you wish to fill the document with letters, remove all the current symbols and drag text, ordered or random text into the symbols palette and apply the plug-in

Replace symbols at any point in the creative process

The symbols can also be replaced at any point with another symbol by using the replace symbol command (also the symbols can be replaced by scripting.. creating multiple variant copies of the same Illustrator document, possibly for varying web designs in different countries or for similar web styled diagrams using different text or swf files.

The symbols can be expanded to basic paths. So apply the plugin to create a frame of blocks or letters and then expand the symbols using the expand symbol command and then color the paths or apply transparency and more

The latest version includes new plugins 'starburst' 'circle' 'diagonal' 'single shot' and 'cross' (the plugins are different from the previously released plugins in that they are single shot/instant click plugins and offer a range of features accessible via control keys.

Each tool comes with a huge selection of options. To display the options for each plugin icon, press enter or double click the plugin icon, this will display a dialog with the options for this particular plugin

Export symbols

Also the tool is great for exporting to other applications or saving in SWF flash format. The symbols exported are re-used so if you have a frame of repeat symbols, the symbol location information and the symbol itself is saved, so having 1000 symbols as a dynamic frame is little different from a basic 10 symbol frame (the size is greater of course but not as great as having the symbols as paths)

Symbols selection

Select a single symbol or use the randomization to select random symbols throughout the symbols palette or use the order option to select the symbols in the order of the Illustrator symbols palette. The symbols in the palette can be re-ordered. Symbols can be added and removed from the palette.
