Accessing Brushes for Illustrator
The brushes are all accessed via the brushes palette in Illustrator (access this via the window > brushes menu command). You will then see a palette with all the current brushes for the document. The brushes can be duplicated, removed, etc there are also a variety of brushes shown such as scatter and artistic etc brush types.
To access the mixed brushes from graphicxtras.com, go to the right side menu of the Illustrator brush palette and select the open brush library command, you will then see all the existing brush libraries supplied by Adobe and then you can open other libraries, in this the GX18 mixed brushes library. Once opened, you can select the brushes and add to the document library. Apply via the brush tool (comes with many options)

Changing an Illustrator brush
You can change the direction of the brush, width, tinting etc via the brushes palette. Double click the required brush and then change the settings as required. Then apply the brush via the brush tool. You can also change the brush from an artistic brush to a scatter brush, or to a pattern brush. You can also easily convert the brush into a basic Illustrator path (expand the brush) or even use the brush as a source for Illustrator symbols.
Tinting brushes
You can use the brushes as supplied You can set the colorization via the colorization dropdown, you can then set the tint etc via the stroke color and apply. Change the stroke color and then re-apply and you will get a different colored brush stroke. Combine using opacity etc to create many stunning color designs. Use to create frames designs and more
Many variations of use with a single brush
A single brush can be used in many different ways. The brush stroke is an artistic brush but it can be quickly turned into a scatter brush or pattern. The brush can be tinted, the direction can be changed etc. Each setting has a particular effect on the displayed brush stroke. Examples below using a single brush design
